To see or not to see; a poem inspired by Fake Me Hard
I seek yet I close my eyes
To feel is to heal
But oh how easy it is to keep the wool in front of our sight
To differentiate between real and fake seems rather impossible
So we stare at the same screen
And talk about the same problems
Our space is filled with blue light and we’ve made ourselves believe that this is how it should be
To see or not to see
To feel or not to feel
To think or not to think
These are the questions that we aren’t asking
Because in this day and age there is so much beauty yet it feels so distorted
And we try to turn it all around and admire the distortion we’ve created
But the distortion is meddling with our lives
It is creating wool before our eyes
It is reaching from the screen and holding onto our skin
I walk through the hallways of the Future and wonder
Is this what we’ve accomplished?
Should I be proud or pitiful?
Perhaps both
Nothing can be called fake or real when these two things have become one like yin and yang
And maybe I take comfort in this fact
And maybe I’m lying to myself
These two matters walk together
Perhaps it is this distortion which will unite us, one day
For now we’re surrounded by neon lights and broken screens and dreams that do not belong to us
